Jamming Orcs - Naysayer, Tire Kicker, Team Breaker, Mission Saboteurs

This article is an excerpt from THE ONE Freedom Leadership Training by INVICTUS.

Controlled opposition or natural-born blockhead? Doesn't make a difference. To protect yourself and your team, you must know how to identify and shield yourself from the most dangerous type of Orcs.

Here's how to fight Jammers, Naysayers, Tire Kickers, Team Breakers, and Mission Saboteurs.

Mind The Orcs

There's a special kind of Orcs out there - a horrible species on a cruel hunt.

Evil creatures, ready to attack your life, your passion, your purpose, and your freedom pursuit.

Naysayer, Tire Kicker, Team Breaker, Mission Saboteurs - there are many names for those jammers.

They operate 24/7, bringing on any pessimistic opinions and views about your approach.

Those Orcs never contribute to your success; they condemn it.

Jammers will extensively report why your plan won't work and what you are aiming for is impossible.

Sometimes, they will insist on selling the audience a much better solution for YOUR purpose.

Jamming is more than just being non-supportive.

It's actively attacking the progress of an individual, a team, or a mission.

Protect Your Team

Jammers are people who always have something negative to say.

They will frequently object and focus on problems rather than solutions.

Not only will jammers slow down any ongoing progressive approach.

Jamming Orcs will also massively impact your daily teamwork.

Ultimately, they will break your team sooner or later.

Many young teams don't survive the storming phase, which is natural and indisputable shortly after the team formation.

The reason for team breaks is, in most cases - jamming.

As a team leader, you always take special responsibility for your team.

This includes protecting the team against any inside and outside attacks.

Jamming is life-threatening. You made a serious effort to clarify your personal passion and purpose.

You know what you want from life and have THE ONE plan to go with. You found the right people to team up with.

Orcs are the predators of all that.

They are Sauron's servants to hold you down and attack the most important things in your life.

That's why you always want to keep watch for Orcs.

Be sure they will come to sabotage your mission at some point.

Identifying Jammers

Jamming Orcs act in many different ways.

The sneaky type prefers to hide in the dark, operating undercover while frequently utilizing other people as useful idiots to play the destruction game.

On the other hand, many jammers love to enter the stage, operating offensively, seeking heed and attention.

Those Orcs are, for the most part, easy to spot since they disclose themselves through their obtrusive actions and reactions.

To identify jammers, look for red flags like this.

Jammers...

... love to attract attention

... forcefully bring in their doubts, fears, and opinions

... are often omnipresent in digital teams, like Telegram groups

... commonly provide long posts or statements

... complain excessively

... are rarely good at making a point

... will insist on their opinion by all means

... consider themselves to be experts

... educate without permission

... will rather speak than listen

... rarely argue in a constructive way

... have no interest in consent

... act rather competitively than collaborative

Why Do They Jam?

Since we can never look into another person's head, it's hard to figure out the true motives of a jammer.

They might be part of a larger strategic operation against your efforts.

It's even possible that they get paid for doing an inside job as a so-called controlled opposition in your team.

Maybe the jammer is just a jerk or nothing more than a natural-born blockhead.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter at all.

You don't want to waste time examining the jammer and creating a psychological profile.

Once you have identified them, you want to remove jammers from your team and proceed with your mission.

In addition, you want to take action to shield your team and your mission from Orcs of any kind.

Why are Jammers Dangerous?

In general, jammers hinder progress by blocking or delaying the operational steps of your mission.

Notably, jammers ...

... distract focus and resources

... frequently spread fear and doubt

... can be a source of misinformation

... can infect others

... can cause significant harm to innovation

... can cause significant economic and societal harm

... can block or disrupt any ongoing constructive debate

... can degrade morale and motivation

... can alienate new team members and prospects

... can have a significant negative impact on your mental health by making team members feel annoyed, anxious, stressed, and even depressed

... can cause a bad team reputation

... can harm the infrastructure and communication culture of your team

The #1 Issue With Jammers

First and foremost, jamming draws time and energy from your team.

For example, a jammer will post incoherent posts on your Telegram group, suggesting things like

"You MUST watch this 2-hour video!"

or

"❗️❗️❗️🔥🔥🔥 Read THIS book (300 pages), and you'll understand everything! Hey, and don't forget to SHARE! SHARE! SHARE!❗️❗️❗️🔥🔥🔥"

Don't let 'em steal your time.

Memento Mori! You made a vow to yourself in Episode 4, didn't you?

So you just can't allow Orcs to enter your world.

You can't allow jammers with their toxic bitching and complaining to suck the life out of you and your team members.

Jammers are vampires. Jammers are poison to your passion and purpose.

That's why you must get rid of them.

Is There A Chance To Turn Jammers Around?

You might wonder if turning a jammer into a constructive partner and team worker is possible.

Well, theoretically, it is.

However, it usually takes a lot of time and effort, and you can never be sure you will succeed sustainably.

A hardcore jammer rarely turns into a pleasant team member. In case of identified controlled opposition, you definitely don't want the Orc to stay.

In some individual cases, a jammer might actually be a hidden expert who could be most valuable to your team.

So you might want to check the chances.

Here are some tips.

  • Set yourself a time limit to handle the individual case. Recommendable not more than an hour. After that time has passed, make your decision.
  • Approach the jammer directly 1:1 (not in a group conversation). Of course, you can invite another team member, but the jammer should feel free from a tribunal.
  • Confront them straight with what you consider jamming and ask them about their intention.
  • Listen to their answers without judgment and see if they make sense to you.
  • Experts are usually good at making a point and can put their expertise in their own words rather than pointing to third-party sources like books or videos.
  • Ask the jammer what constructive contribution they'd like to bring to the team.
  • In particular, ask them about their time commitment to check if they are only tire kickers ("Well... actually, I don't have time. I just wanted to hang around...")
  • Ask them about proof of concept of what they are suggesting. You are not looking for another opinion. You are looking for helpful expertise and modeling of excellence.
  • Ask the jammer if they are willing to work on a special task inside your team or mission. Then, ask them about a general strategy that they would operate.
  • Don't make your final decision yet. Thank the jammer for the conversation and end it. Consult with some confidants afterward if necessary.
  • Return to the jammer the next day and let them know your decision.

How To Shield From The Orcs?

In most cases, it is not necessary to actively attack the jamming Orcs.

Once you've identified them, proper shielding usually is enough.

In fact, you shouldn't waste much time dealing with jammers.

Be Real. Be raw. Be radical. Remove them from your team and from your life.

It's all yours.

Your life.

Your passion.

Your purpose.

Your mission.

You are THE ONE in charge.

You are THE ONE responsible.

As a leader by example, you will attract the right people to team up with.

However, you are never obliged to surround yourself with destructive people.

Nobody has the right to impose their doubts, fears, and negativity on you and your team.

There's absolutely no reason to engage with jammers.

Keep them out.

So, hand-pick the people around you.

You don't want everyone on your team.

You are looking for those for whom you are the best fit.

Here are some more tactical tips on how to shield from jamming Orcs.

  • Don't argue. No need to defend your mission. Jammers will hear about your plans and give you their unsolicited opinions and advice. Don't argue with them. Don't attempt to win anyone over. Don't aim to convince anyone of anything.
  • Don't get hurt. Although a jammer might act with the intention to harm you, you don't have to swallow it. Don't take things personally. What someone thinks, says, or does is on them. How you react is on you. Stay cool with jammers.
  • Don't waste time. Remember, you have limited time on Earth. Every day, 86,400 seconds are withdrawn from your account. Focus on your passion and purpose. Don't give your precious time treasure to people who don't support you.
  • Be selective. Things will get much easier once you realize that not everyone loves your way of life and has your back. You are not here to please anyone. You are here to follow your passion and purpose.
  • Stay away from people who aren't for you. Don't let your friends or family members bring you down or keep you from your ONE life. Instead, find others who are on a similar mission. Team up with like-minded people only.
  • Be professional. Use the tools from THE ONE Freedom Leadership Training to build a solid team and movement.
  • Be confidential. Have a trustful and open conversation inside your team. At the same time, be sensitive in external communication. Always decide carefully with whom you share any information. If in doubt, less is more. Protect members and missions. The less you spread, the more difficult it is for jammers to attack you.
  • Focus on action. Follow THE ONE plan for your life's purpose. You know what to do every day. You don't need jammers to tell you what NOT to do.
  • Be kind. (Only if you like). No need to be rude. You can gently smile into a jammer's face while deep in your heart, thinking, "F*ck you, bloody Orc bastard!"
